Is Palau digital residency legit?

RNS documentation says Palau is RNS's sovereign partner and that Palau passed the Digital Residency Act in December 2021. RNS also describes the Palau ID as government-issued. The smart question is not only whether it is real, but whether it fits your specific use case.

Does it give citizenship or a passport?

No. RNS FAQ says digital residency does not support a pathway to citizenship or future Palau passports. You still need your passport for travel.

How much does it cost?

RNS FAQ lists Trial Version $288 for 1 year, Regular Version $1,199 for 5 years, and Ultimate Version $2,339 for 10 years. Check RNS before paying because prices may change.

Can I use it for crypto KYC?

Maybe, but acceptance varies. RNS says the Palau ID is supported by several exchanges, but it also says only the physical copy can be used for KYC. Do not use a downloaded image for third-party KYC.

How long does approval take?

RNS says normal approval takes 7 to 10 days depending on additional information needed. The application process page also lists 24 to 72 hours for initial screening and up to 7 days for government approval.

How long does the physical card take?

RNS says printing and packaging typically take 7 to 14 business days after approval. Shipping time varies by destination country and carrier conditions.

Are there taxes for Palau digital residents?

RNS says there is 0% Palau tax on non-Palau income for digital residents. That is not tax advice and does not erase obligations in other countries.

Who cannot apply?

RNS FAQ says all global citizens can apply except North Korea, Iran, Syria, Cuba, Crimea, and Sudan. Sanctions and eligibility rules can change.
